"The Cop and the Anthem" - Charles Laughton with Marilyn Monroe

"The Cop and the Anthem" was one of five short stories by O. Henry which were featured in the 1952 movie "Full House" and introduced by the writer John Steinbeck. Charles Laughton played a tramp who wanted to spend the cold winter in a nice warm jail, so he committed several petty crimes in order to get arrested. One of these was accosting a young lady window-shopping in the hope she'd report him to a nearby policeman. Instead she turned out to be a hooker, played in a one-minute role by a rising young star named Marilyn Monroe. Laughton's fellow tramp in this delightful short comedy was played by David Wayne.
